Tre Xu Thanh

Tre Xu Thanh (TxT) company is located in Ban Cang, Xuan Phu commune, Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa. TxT was established in 2010 by Mr. Chu Van Sau. The company is an official member of Luong Enterprise Association in Quan Hoa, Thanh Hoa. Their total number of employees is 10, all of which are regular staff. 80% of the workers are men.

Under supervision and support of SPIN consultants, the product categories of this company were analyzed thoroughly, using the DIY Product-Assessment Tool. TxT’s product portfolio included two clusters:  bamboo furniture and agricultural organic products.

Main products of the bamboo furniture cluster were complete houses and furniture made from luong (a kind of bamboo originated in Quan Hoa, Thanh Hoa); and processed bamboo culms (sold as raw materials). This was the key business of TxT company since its foundation and identified as its “cash cow”, which was generating sales and guaranteeing the existence of TxT at that time.

On the other hand, agricultural organic products were resulted by the creation of a close-loop cycle of agribusiness with the application of multiple zero-waste techniques. The idea is to make full use of the waste around, especially those generated from the bamboo production process. These kind of products did not generate a lot of sales yet, but with sufficient and long-term investment, they can become the best-selling products of TxT in near future, which was why the product cluster was considered “star”. In the end of the company-project, TxT decided to pursue both product clusters, with a more focus on agricultural organic products. Suitable strategies were also chosen for the improvement of the two clusters: DIY new product development for agricultural organic products and DIY cleaner production for bamboo furniture. These changes did help TxT escalate their business success.
